ABOUT OUR GUEST

Kute’s own background and experience lay out the blueprint for his approach to liberating others, setting their gifts and greatness free. Born in Ghana, West Africa, his multicultural upbringing as the child of a Japanese mother and Ghanaian father, raised in London, and on 4 different continents defies all stereotype.

The son of a revered spiritual leader, Kute was speaking to his fatherʼs congregations, in more than 300 churches, by the age of 8. At the age of 14, he was ordained into his fatherʼs ministry and groomed to carry on the familyʼs spiritual legacy. But his heartʼs truth drew him to separate from his fatherʼs ministry and come to Los Angeles in 1995.

Kute courageously and daringly, came to America with two suitcases, and a dream seeking out many of the spiritual and self-help icons who inspired him when he was still a boy. He quickly learned that the outside- in approach had to become an inside-out approach. So he decided to create his own process—a process that liberates the individual at the core. This process helps the individual get in touch with who they really. It is a process of breaking free, so that each person can live, give, and share the truest expression of his or her self. This is what he calls “Liberated Living.”

ABOUT OUR GUEST

Scotty Studer is an IT geek (his words, not mine) who, over the course of 18 plus years in his profession, suffered from poor nutrition, too little sleep, and tried over and over again to make positive change, but the stress of work, family life, & plain old day-to-day distractions got in the way of the changes he knew he needed to make.

After finally making the decision to work with a couple coaches who helped show him the way, he started making some real changes across the board. Turns out it was a bunch of little stuff that added up to big results, and that's why he wrote his book "Small Changes Big Results," and I'm glad to have him on the show this week to walk us through some of what he shares in his book.

ABOUT OUR GUEST

Christopher Schwarz is a long-time woodworker and writer who has spent the last 20 years encouraging woodworkers to embrace more handwork in their shops. He built his first workbench when he was 11 and was introduced to handwork when his family built its first house on an Arkansas farm without electricity.

After formal training as a journalist at Northwestern University, Chris worked as a newspaperman by day and studied woodworking at night at the University of Kentucky. In 1996, he was hired as managing editor of Popular Woodworking, where he helped resuscitate the magazine and introduced more handwork into its pages. He eventually became editor and began writing books and teaching woodworking classes.

In 2007 he founded Lost Art Press LLC, a publishing company devoted to one thing: reviving handwork. By 2011, Lost Art Press had grown so much that Chris stepped down as editor of Popular Woodworking Magazine (he’s now a contributing editor) to focus on his company full time and build furniture commissions.

He’s the author of several woodworking books, including “The Anarchist’s Tool Chest,” “Workbenches: From Design & Theory to Construction & Use,” and “Campaign Furniture.” He has also has produced more than a dozen DVDs on handwork with Lie-Nielsen Toolworks and F+W Media Inc. He lives in Fort Mitchell, Ky., with his wife and two daughters.

ABOUT OUR GUEST

Dr. Wayne Hayes is a NASA scientist, entrepreneur, idea-seeker, and he's the creator of the Cold Shoulder Calorie Burning Vest. He currently teaches at University of California Irvine when he's not appearing on news outlets all over the world featuring the vest.

He & his vest have been featured on Dr. Oz, Men's Fitness, Men's Health, Science Daily, The Atlantic, Shape, CNet, The Telegraph, and more.

Check out the vest here.

ABOUT THE SHOW

We talk about the science behind the vest (that goes back to the 1800's), why it seems like snake oil, common sense that's not so common, global warming, his ill-timed entrepreneurial start in 2008, and a lot more.

I love this vest because it's an idea that's so brilliantly simple, but is devilishly complex in execution. Many thanks to Dr. Hayes for putting the time into making it a reality.

ABOUT THE EPISODE

We are all broadcasters. We are constantly broadcasting information to others, even if we don’t say a word. Managers broadcast to their teams during meetings. Team members broadcast to clients. Clients broadcast to potential clients. And the messages we choose to broadcast shape others’ views of the world.

Our words can move other people from a fear-based mindset in which they see obstacles as insurmountable, to a positive mindset where they see that change is possible, get unstuck, and take action. What makes the difference is what we choose to broadcast. Using scientifically proven communication strategies to ripple out positive change to others, we increase their happiness and success at work, as well as our own, instantly making us more effective leaders.

We cover how to deal with negative people, how to practice gratitude, how happiness influences others, and a lot more. This is packed with practical advice that you can use to change your life, and the lives of the people you meet.

ABOUT THE EPISODE

It's one of the most important questions you'll answer, and most people go about it all wrong. When it comes to figuring out what to do next, there's a better way of doing it. That's what we talk about in this week's episode of the show. It's prompted by a question Jonathan has from a personal coaching client who has an opportunity at work, but isn't sure about whether or not to take it.

So if you're having trouble figuring out where to go from here, this is for you.

ABOUT OUR GUEST

Professor Anthony Barnhart received his Ph.D. in cognitive science from Arizona State University, where he began his graduate career with the intention of being a language researcher. To this end, he has published research examining the processes underlying handwritten word perception, a domain that has been largely ignored by psychologists.

Prof. Barnhart is also a part-time professional magician with more than 20 years of performing experience. His research trajectory changed in 2010 with the publication of the book Sleights of Mind: What the Neuroscience of Magic Reveals about our Everyday Deceptions, in which he was featured as a consultant and teacher on the science of stage magic. The scientific interest that the book garnered motivated Prof. Barnhart to shift his focus toward the interface of science and magic.

His research program in the science of magic explores the intuitions of magicians and attempts to marry this folk psychology with formal scientific models in the domains of attention and perception. This work has been featured in Science News For Kids as well as in national and international television appearances and documentaries, most recently appearing in the Science Channel’s “Hack My Brain” program.

As a performer, he employs psychological principles to elevate his magic’s impact and increase the audience’s sense of wonder. His magic has won four national competitions and has been featured in publications such as National Geographic World magazine, M-U-M Magazine (the official journal of the Society of American Magicians), and The Linking Ring (the journal of the International Brotherhood of Magicians).

ABOUT THE EPISODE

This week! We get into some brain science! We dive into the hidden mechanisms of how we make sense of reality, how we make assumptions we don’t even know we’re making, the spotlight of attention, and a whole lot more.

ABOUT OUR GUEST

This week I have a very special guest. His name is Quinton Sheer, or Q as I’ve known him over the years. He used to run an internet radio show in the early 2000’s. Since then he’s gotten his law degree specializing in entertainment law. Us entertainers run into some weird questions, and it’s better to get that stuff hammered out BEFORE it becomes an issue.

Q's Website

ABOUT THE SHOW

He’s wanting to get back into producing audio content, and since he stopped the landscape has changed dramatically. We sit down to talk about what it was like in the good old days, the importance of defining your voice, how to think about creative endeavors, and a lot more that goes into making a podcast.

I pull the curtain back on my creative process and how I go about actually making the show work. What microphone I use, what programs, how I get the show from my computer and into whatever device you’re listening on now.

There’s a lot in this show, that’s why it’s nearly 2 hours long. If you’re interested in the creative arts, and producing something awesome, you’ll want to listen to the whole thing.

And now, onto the show!

ABOUT THE SHOW

This week is a quick listen, but there's a lot packed in there. Jonathan shares the parable of the Prince & the Magician from the novel The Magus by John Fowles.

We're all magicians of our own lives, creating meaning where there may be none. As you listen to the story that covers 2 pages, think about your own life and how you've found beauty in the real and the unreal.

It's a little out there, but enjoy the strange perspective on how we grow.
